A 121-year-old Atlantic Hurricane Record Could Be Broken in October
While last week’s nor’easter was its own nuisance, one rain event that hasn’t been affecting running in the eastern US is hurricanes. (Read this Newsletter’s Ruminations feature for more about SRC runners and the nor’easter.)
“The Atlantic has yet to produce a hurricane in 2026, putting the season within reach of a record set in 1905 for the latest first hurricane. AccuWeather is now forecasting 0-2 hurricanes through the end of the season.”

RUN REPORT – 9/26/26
Blame the recent Nor’easter for some of the Shawmont runners bailing on the 9/26/26 Bridge to Bridge Run. Four of us held a team meeting in Diane’s mini-van at 6:15 AM and weighed the pros and cons of running along the tow path.
It took a text from Half Caff warning of possible downed trees for us to one by one say “I’m out.” We parted ways with intentions of running in our comfort zone (treadmill, neighborhood, Valley Green….)
No regrets from this runner for bailing!
Read Themz for numerical deets.
Footnote: Back when Zen Yanni wrote, the narrative around the previous week’s efforts was a regular feature. “Run Report” was the name of the entire publication, then (iCandybyWangC.com).
