All That Jaz Rumination (“For 1/31/26”)

Service delayed to spring due to then poor weather conditions.

Memorial Service, 4/25/26, 3:30 p.m.

Dear SRC friends,

There will be a Celebration of Life for James on April 25, 3:30pm at Central Baptist Church, 106 W. Lancaster Ave. in Wayne, PA.

It would be lovely if you could attend. If that’s not possible, we are planning to livestream the service at the following link:

Please pass the word on to [those] who might be interested in coming.

The grief is deep, but so is the gratitude for the time we had together. He so enjoyed the time he spent with you.

Best,
    –Betty

RUMINATIONS

Short Memories – by KayCee

Last fall, I wrote about doing the Savannah River Half in Augusta and how much I struggled during the race (ShawmontRunningClub.com). My music didn’t work, I was undertrained for long runs, and the fried food from the night before wasn’t helping. I swore to myself that if we came back for the race in 2026, I was going to do the 10k. I’d leave the half marathon to the younger runners in the Corino family.

Over the Easter holiday, hubby and I went to Augusta to visit our son. Brad and I went out for a long run on the same course as the race and thoroughly enjoyed being back on the Greeneway in beautiful weather.

Slowly, I started thinking about the October race. This year, I could do more Shawmonts and tweak my fueling. My AirPods would be charged and the playlist curated to motivate me more. And definitely no fried foods until after the race!

It’s probably a good thing that I don’t remember every mile I suffered last year. I’ve pushed those painful thoughts aside so I could figure out how to improve and be stronger. I’m sure I’m not alone in forgetting bad runs and races. If we all gave up running because of 1 disappointing 5k, training run or marathon, I doubt anyone would show up at Shawmont on a Saturday morning.

RUNNIN’ OFF AT THE MOUTH

Running is a way to find something positive about every workout and every challenge you face.

The goal is to finish with a smile.
    –Jeff Galloway (MarathonJournal.com)

I spent the first twenty years of my running career trying to run as many miles as I could as fast as I could. Then I spent the next twenty years trying to figure out how to run the least amount of miles needed to finish a marathon. And I’ve come to the conclusion the second way is much more enjoyable.
