RUMINATIONS

Imagine going on a running vacation with your family at the most spectacular place in the country when all of you only run once a year.  Imagine the fortune of having one in your group who’s the equivalent of an elite runner who could write a book on running.

That was us last week when we went on a family ski trip to Park City, Utah.  Four of us ski once a year, 2 hadn’t skied in 20 years, and one (Andrew) was a former ski instructor who now lives in Tahoe and skis all the time.

Andrew showed true patience beyond his 29 years as he gave up the black diamonds to help us improve our skills and navigate down the mountain on the easier greens and blues.  He constantly shouted out an encouraging “Look at those turns, Aunt Kristy!” or “Use the whole mountain, Brad!”

It reminded me of running a large race and hearing people motivate the runners.  Just when you need it, there is someone telling you that you look strong and you got this. 

There were so many faster, better skiers out there, but our little group of 7 stuck together and improved significantly after 4 days on the slopes. And it’s thanks to Andrew, our biggest cheerleader and best coach. 

I’ll never ski as well as he does, but he reinforced that a positive attitude and kind words can go a long way.
