It is a Privilege to Run – by Ira Meyers
It is 102 degrees one day
And 10 degrees the next
Yet, I get off my ass because it is a privilege to run
Team in Training runs for leukemia/lymphoma
Joints in Motion runs for arthritis
Susan Komen races for breast cancer
Alas, it is a privilege to run
In some countries they run, but not for fun
In others, they are not allowed to run
I remind myself, it is a privilege to run
For those who can’t
For those who don’t get it
Or those who don’t want to try
I run because it is a privilege to run
Doesn’t matter if you’re running for fun
Doesn’t matter if you’re running for time
Just remember, it is a privilege to run

Long Run Tips for Runners
- Start Slow and Steady: …Long runs are about building endurance, not speed…
- Fuel Smart: …Don’t wait until you’re feeling drained—fuel proactively.
- Hydration is Key: Plan your hydration strategy just as carefully as your fueling…
- Test Your Gear: Use your long runs to test what you’ll wear on race day…
- Add Variety: Mix things up by adding hills, running on trails, or including a finish-fast segment in the last few miles.
- Break It Down Mentally: …Focus on getting to the next mile marker, water stop, or mental checkpoint…
- Prioritize Recovery: Recovery starts the moment you finish your run…
