[1½ MIN READ]
KayCee is the voice of rumination that SRC readers will find contributing to the Newsletter around the first week of every month. Find all of her writing contributions here: By KayCee.
AKA Kristy, she did her first SRC run in 2015 (Facebook Group, “Themz”).
She started her running life in her 20’s, but got really serious in the 20’s, specifically, the late 20-aughts. In 2009—as a parent—she was raising boy and girl twins. They were “driving [me] nuts. I needed an outlet.” Life (family?) can do that. “After my first 10 miler, I thought I could either hang up my running shoes or keep running…I kept at it!” The crazy thing about kids is that they grow up and now she counts running with them among the highlights of her running career.
One particular highlight was running her 3rd marathon as a virtual 2020 Boston around the roads of Blue Bell, Montgomery County, PA. In the familiarity and accessibility of her hometown, she had no difficulty seeing and appreciating all her cheering groupies. Some of SRC’s very own runners paced and encouraged her to the finish in front of her very own house. The account of that marathon effort was her first contribution to the Rumination column of the memorial Zen Yanni Weekly Newsletter.
While KayCee and her groupies join her every few months running the very gravel of Forbidden Drive with SRC Wissahickon, you can usually find them all plying neighborhood routes as the club’s Blue Belles (North Wailers?) contingent (Facebook Group).
Trail Tag
KayCee’s name comes from her initials that conveniently sound like a common name for both gals and guys. Creating a tag from a runner’s initials was a common strategy that club principal Zen Yanni often used.
