In 2023, Mango Marjo and I moved to Puerto Rico. As runners, we discovered:
1) Similar to Philly:
- Popular running routes – some flat like the K / MLK loop and some that make Shawmont Avenue look like a baby hill.
- Less and very organized running groups.
- Lots of races (see more below).
2) Different than Philly:
- A more temperate climate – year-round temperatures range in: the lower coastal elevations is from 70 to 90 °F; the higher elevations in the central part of the island is from 61 to 80 °F.
- Race entry fees range from $10.00 to $30.00 and typically include a T-shirt and a medal.
In most races cash prizes are given to the first three runners in 5 year age groups. Sometimes it even goes to the top 5 runners.
Sooooooo, if you are thinking about a vacation and you want to include a race, Puerto Rico may be the perfect spot for you!
One of our most famous races is the San Blas Half Marathon.
